I take pride in creating systems that are easy to use and match the client’s business process. An experienced employee should be able to use the database I built without extensive training, because the database should work in a familiar manner. My goal is for the client staff to take ownership of a system that incorporates their ideas, uses their jargon, and streamlines their jobs. Many of my earlier databases, started in the mid-1990s, are still in use today and I continue to support them. That’s taught me to plan for the long haul. I don’t just think about your needs today, I think about what will you need when you have a year’s worth of data and then 5 years of data. I think about what might change over time, such as your prices, and give you a way to handle that without needing programming changes later. |
You say toe-may-toe, I say ta-mah-toe Well, it doesn’t really matter what I say when it comes to the titles, labels and terminology in your database. They should match what you say. |
